Background of development
Today, our wealthy lives are supported by fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas. Mechanism of electric power generation
Electric power is generated using oxygen in the air as the positive electrode active material, magnesium as the negative electrode active material (a material that emits electrons), and salt water as the electrolyte. Discharge electric with 90% or more of actual capacity by weight of active material, and operation in an environment of -20 to 55 ° C are possible.
Air and salt water (seawater) required for electric power generation are abundant on the earth. Magnesium is also the eighth most abundant element on Earth (Clark Number 8), accounting for about 2.5% of the earth's crust. Approximately 0.13% is dissolved in seawater as an element, and about 1t of magnesium can be collected from 800t of seawater.
The chemical reaction between magnesium and air produces magnesium hydroxide and hydrogen, both of which are harmless to the global environment and do not emit any carbon dioxide or toxic substances.
There is a prejudice that magnesium is flammable and dangerous, but magnesium used for water power generation is shaped into an ingot and there is no danger of ignition or explosion. In addition, since no toxic substances such as carbon monoxide are emitted during power generation, power can be safely generated even in closed rooms.
